Area’s possibilities bring good news

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. City crews on both sides of the river are busy putting out decorations and local businesses are hosting open houses for early holiday shopping. As we prepare to get in the holiday spirit, let us remember some of the good news from last week:
- Vacant stores in downtown Natchez and Vidalia are usually not considered good news, but for those looking for a future potential business, the annual Possibilities Tour is a great place to start. The annual event is a joint venture between Alcorn State University, Natchez Inc. and area Realtors. In recent years, the tour has seen success. Several once vacant properties are now filled with local businesses. Thanks to everyone who continue to host this event.
- In 24 hours, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office raised more than $26,000 for the dozens of dogs found at a suspected dogfighting operation that needed immediate care. Although the circumstances are painful and difficult to comprehend, the overwhelming concern and quick response from residents and other dog lovers sent a simple, strong message about the generosity of the community. Although the dogs have since been transported away, the big-hearted nature of the community remains. For that we are thankful.
- Trinity Episcopal Day School senior Anna Rodriguez decided she wanted to be a leader. Since the ninth grade Rodriguez has helped lead the student council, Key Club and other organizations. Her desire to lead is not out of need to help herself, however. Rodriguez says she wants to lead in order to represent those who cannot represent themselves. After she graduates, Rodriguez hopes to continue leading on whatever path she chooses, letting her moral compass lead the way — an attitude that we know will carry her far.
Let us remember to thank those who continue to make our community great.
