ACCS looks to only loss this year for motivation in second round of playoffs

Adams County Christian School has just one loss this season — coming to MAIS Class AAAA Presbyterian Christian, but coach David King isn’t shying away from using it to his advantage.

The Rebels (10-1) are set to host Heritage Academy (9-3) in the second round of the Class AAA playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday, and King said the No. 6 seed doesn’t look all that unfamiliar.

“We know we have our hands full this week,” King said. “This is the most balanced team we have seen all year besides Presbyterian Christian — the most athletic team we have seen beside them. We will have to play our best to win.

“There is a lot of people picking Heritage to beat us, and I understand so.”

ACCS — the No. 3 seed — is coming off a win in the first round over Lee Academy, 35-8.

Senior quarterback Jacob McDaniel threw for one touchdown and rushed for another, while Mj Thornburg hauled in McDaniel’s scoring pass and also rushed for one touchdown to lead the Rebels.

Heritage Academy notched its first round win over Central Private, 29-12.

Though King said he wishes the Rebels could change the end result of its game with Presbyterian Christian, ACCS has changed since then.

“That was early in the year, and we were still trying to figure out who we were at the time,” he said. “We know who we are now, and we know who the guys are that we can count on during the game. They know if we don’t do some things this week, we will be run out of the stadium.”

King also said he does not want to undermine the chance to play in front of local fans.

“We are at home after all,” he said. “To be playing this late in the season, we have had a good year. We are just looking to hold out as long as we can.”
