Adams County Christian School’s Brianna Henson and Lexie Emanuel capped off their time as Lady Rebel softball players with an achievement special enough to add to their list of favorite memories.

Among 35 other players, the senior duo traveled on Oct. 12 to Jackson Prep and competed in the MAIS AAA-AAAA All-Star game.

While Henson and Emanuel were selected to the same team, they lost, 4-2.

“I had a really good time. I wouldn’t have wanted to end it any other way — except maybe a win,” Henson said laughing. “We hit a home run in the first inning and that made it exciting, but they just outscored us.”

Despite the loss, Emanuel said she was happy to compete in a low-stress environment to end her career.

“Even though it was my last game, I wasn’t very upset because we did have fun,” she said. “It was good to not feel like we had to win. It was something to do to relax, but it was still sad.”

Up until the all-star game, Henson and Emanuel had always competed to win.

As juniors, the pair led ACCS to a fourth place finish in the Class AAA state tournament and a second place finish in South State. They were both selected to the all-district first team.

This past season, the Lady Rebels (21-10) grabbed another second place finish in South State, yet fell earlier in the state tournament despite winning their first game.

Henson said the game was a nice way to acknowledge their hard work.

“I was excited to play with all-stars and people that were wanting to play a good game,” she said. “I made a bunch of new friends, and we had fun coaches too. I was honored to be a part of the team.”

While Emanuel agreed the game was good competition, she added that she would like to stick to softball.

“We got to play mini golf. I lost my ball in the pond,” she said. “I went to hit it, and it just went not where I wanted it to go. It was so much fun, though.”

As their senior year is progressing, both Henson and Emanuel are doing their best to soak in the memories.

“It’s started to sink in, but I still don’t really feel like a senior,” Emanuel said.

“I still get to play summer ball,” Henson added. “I would be really upset if I didn’t have that.”
