NATCHEZ — Police are on the lookout for an unknown suspect who reportedly burglarized the residence of a Natchez woman.
The Natchez Police Department Saturday reported a call of a burglary complaint at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday at a Westwood Road residence.
The homeowner, Ryan Richardson, said she believed the break-in occurred in broad daylight. She said the house had been empty from approximately 8:30 a.m. until she returned home late that evening and made the complaint.
Richardson said she believes the crime was premeditated.
“Whoever it was had been watching me,” Richardson said. “I’m fairly predictable. I work a lot, not at home a lot, single mom with a teenage daughter.”
Police said among the stolen items were a pistol, an engraved golden ring and a pair of black and white Mizuno sports cleats.
Police said the handgun was possibly a .32 caliber Berretta Tomcat.
The homeowner also reportedly told police the burglar had broken into the home by forcing entry through a back door of the residence, damaging the wooden door and doorknob in the process.
The burglar proceeded to rummage through most of the residence’s rooms before leaving with the aforementioned stolen items, police said.
Richardson, a Natchez native, said she has never before experienced this kind of situation.
“You just don’t ever think that would happen to you, and when it does, it just steps you up a little bit,” she said. “I know what I have to do … I can’t be predictable.
“I’m invested in this town, and this is not going to stop me from doing anything, but I will be more aware.”
The matter remains under investigation, and the Natchez Police Department requests any citizens with information that could aid the investigation, lead to the return of the stolen items or help apprehend the suspect to contact the department.
