ACCS looks for push late in season, hosts Bowling Green

Despite thinking every game is a crucial one, Adams County Christian School football coach David King was looking for something to motivate his team this week.

The Rebels (6-1, 1-0) step out of district play for its homecoming game at 7 p.m. tonight against Bowling Green.

“The district games are big — when you play up in class and when you play in-town rivalries, those are all motivation,” King said. “We don’t take any team for granted. It’s all about power points when you get to non-conference games. When you have a game where they are not familiar with the opponent, we have to take care of business for the extra power points.”

With various festivities throughout the week, King — a 1987 ACCS graduate — said he hopes his team can stay focused.

“Even though it’s homecoming, everybody in the country has it,” he said. “There are a lot of distractions and a lot of things go on, but it is a big part of high school football. There is no need to complain about it. It is what it is.

“I hope the whole meaning behind it is that people come back from college or from out of town to see their alma mater.”

The Rebels are coming off a shutout win over Silliman Institute, 20-0.

“Our defense was really primed for that game, and we needed it. The timing with our offense wasn’t there,” King said. “The way we have coached for years, it’s hard to get a shutout because we are going to put in younger kids to play if we ever get up by a lot. It was a good team effort, and all phases of the defense did a good job.”

Additionally, King said he is pleased with the overall performance of his team so far this season.

“It’s Week 8 and it has flown by,” he said. “We have had ups and downs like everyone, but we like where we are right now.”
