VIDALIA — Two people were hospitalized Sunday after a shooting Vidalia police said likely was accidental and may have occurred at the hands of a child.
Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill said officers responded to the incident, which involved a juvenile, early Sunday morning on East Circle Drive. Merrill would not provide the child’s age or other details of the investigation.
Brandy Mitchell of Natchez and Daniel Baker of Vidalia were transported to Merit Health Natchez early Sunday morning.
Baker was released later that day, but Mitchell was flown to Rapides Regional Medical Center where she was in stable condition in the intensive care unit as of 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Vidalia police officers called the Department of Children and Family Services and the Rapides Children’s Advocacy Center.
“Investigators are still interviewing witnesses, and the case is still under investigation,” Merrill said. “We would also like to thank the (Concordia Parish) sheriff’s department for their assistance.”
