Natchez shows great generosity

We all know our community’s problems. We talk about them all the time. But we often fail to appreciate one of the most amazing things about our area — our people’s generosity.
The Natchez region is a giving community, particularly when people are in real need.
Recently, the long-time bastion of giving the necessities of life in our area, the Natchez Stewpot sent out a simple call for help.
They needed canned vegetables to help provide the hundreds of meals the nonprofit provides day in and day out.
All too often, the Stewpot is one of the nonprofits easily forgotten until the holidays, but it is like a goodness and love factory that churns out meal after meal, 365 days of the year.
In just a few days after the call for assistance came, the good people of our community stepped up and provided enough donations to restock the shelves of the Stewpot.
Natchez takes care of its own.
But it also helps when others need assistance, too.
The City of Natchez, led by Mayor Darryl Grennell, recently gathered up trailer loads of goods to donate to victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
Even the transportation has been provided free of charge with local trucking company, Jordan Carriers, individuals like resident Paul Brown and perhaps others volunteering their time and money to move donated goods to the victims.
Our world is filled with problems, squabbles and bad things we wish we could forget, but it’s also filled with a bunch of really good, and utterly generous people we call neighbors.
