NATCHEZ — A Natchez man reportedly turned himself in to police Friday after allegedly stealing a firearm from Bowie’s Outfitters earlier that day.
Natchez police officers responded to a call at approximately 4:30 p.m. at Bowie’s regarding a potential shoplifting incident.
Police said three men entered the store, and while one individual spoke to the store clerk, another took a 9-mm GLOCK pistol out of a case that was sitting on the counter, placing it in his left pocket. The three men reportedly left the store minutes later.
The man connected to the shoplifting is Kiandas Washington, 19, 111 Wisteria Lane, who police said turned himself in at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Officers determined the two other men whom were present had no knowledge or approval of the alleged crime, NPD reported. Police said Washington acted on his own accord and became the lone suspect wanted in connection to the case.
Police said Washington had a friend return the allegedly stolen pistol minutes after Washington turned himself in to police.
Police charged Washington with shoplifting, and he was released on a $500 bond.
This arrest marks Washington’s second in the last four months. In May, Washington was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
