Delta Charter to use combined effort on road

Ka’varius Whitehead ran in Delta Charter School’s winning touchdown over Lincoln Prep last week on the last play, ending with four total touchdowns and more than 200 yards of offense.

Though Storm coach Blake Wheeler said Whitehead’s performance was above average, he knows his entire team needs to follow suite this week.

Delta Charter (2-0) is set to travel to General Trass at 7 p.m. tonight.

“I was really proud of our guys last week. For us to be where we want to be, it’s going to take all 11 guys,” Wheeler said. “They played really well and showed they have a lot of heart.”

Wheeler said he expects General Trass (1-1) — an LHSAA Class 2A school — to be another tough battle.

“They got their first win last week so they will obviously have some momentum,” he said. “They have a lot of kids who played significant minutes last year and are returning with a lot of size and speed.”

While Wheeler is hoping for a conjoined effort, he said Whitehead had stepped up in the quarterback position.

“He has gained a lot of respect from his teammates,” he said. “We are expecting him to be great this week and for the rest of the season.”
