Though Adams County Christian School softball coach Tate Lipscomb wasn’t sure where the Lady Rebels found their late spark Wednesday night, he was happy they did.
Carly Delaney nailed a sixth-inning double to left field, scoring Makenna Patt for the Lady Rebels’ first lead of the night in their comeback victory over the Lady Wave, 7-3.
“It was scary, because my bats have yet to turn on like they are supposed to,” Lipscomb said. “The last two innings were finally a sign of them coming out. I really don’t know how, but they finally woke up.”
Cathedral (4-5) came out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Lady Wave then led 3-2 through three innings.
“I was proud of them, they competed and played hard tonight,” Cathedral coach Craig Beesley said. “When they showed up to the ballpark tonight, I could tell they were ready to play. They did a good job for us.”
ACCS strung together five of its seven hits during the sixth and seventh innings, led by Shelby Mason and Brianna Henson with two hits apiece.
Henson took a headfirst dive into home plate to tie the game, 3-3, in the sixth inning, and also pitched all seven innings to earn the win. She ended with seven strikeouts.
Lipscomb said while the Lady Rebels were fortunate to bounce back, he was a bit surprised by the slow start.
Marlee Magee and Lexie Emanuel also ended with a hit for ACCS.
“I thought we were going to come out hot. They seemed ready to go, so I don’t know,” he said.
Going forward, Lipscomb said ACCS (10-3-1) still has room to improve.
“They played the last two innings like we can play ball,” he said. “We haven’t played like that but about three or four games this season. If we can play like that and put a whole game together, we can be tough to beat.”
Adrianna Rojo led Cathedral’s efforts, batting 2-for-3. Hailey Ellis also ended with a hit.
Madeline Smith pitched all seven innings for the Lady Wave in the loss.
ACCS will host Parklane Academy tonight at 7:30 p.m., while Cathedral travels to Brookhaven Academy for a tournament Saturday.
