Jefferson County earns first win of year, tops Amite County, 38-8

Jefferson County quarterback Gailronte Fells accounted for 172 yards of total offense and five total touchdowns as the Tigers picked up their first win of the season with a 38-8 win over the Amite County Trojans Friday night.
Fells did most of his damage on the ground. He had 12 carries for 136 yards and three touchdowns (12, 2 and 15 yards). He also completed four of nine passes for 36 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Tigers jumped out of the gate in a big way, scoring 20 points in the first quarter. Fells had two of his touchdown runs in the opening quarter to go with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Lazarius Pinder.
Early in the second quarter, Fells connected with Oric Lewis on a 1-yard TD pass for a 26-0 Tigers lead. The Trojans (1-2) scored their only points just past the midway point of the second quarter on an 11-yard pass from Derick Crosby to Davvenyon Woodside.
Dominique Gaines finished off the scoring for the Tigers with a 21-yard TD run with 7:38 remaining in the game. Gaines ended the game with nine carries for 138 yards.
Jefferson County (1-2) plays host to South Delta at 7 p.m. next Friday.
