FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly attempting to rob a man at gunpoint last week. The would-be victim fought back and escaped.
Dondrell L. Holmes, 29, 200 Kyle Road No. 12, was charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated second-degree battery and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
In the middle of last week, Ferriday police reported that as the victim exited a Concordia Apartments unit, Holmes allegedly accosted him. Holmes reportedly hit the man in the head with the weapon and told him to get against the wall and give Holmes everything.
The victim reportedly pushed Holmes and ran away. No shots were fired.
The victim sought medical attention at Riverland Medical Center for the wound to his head and was treated and released last week.
Holmes was arrested on a warrant at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday outside Concordia Apartments without incident.
Police recovered the firearm that was reportedly used in the attempted robbery. The pistol was allegedly connected to a gun that had been reported stolen earlier in the year.
Holmes was in jail Wednesday with no bond set.
