NATCHEZ — The Adams County coroner received information Monday about the construction worker who was found dead on top of the Mississippi River Bridge last week.
Coroner James Lee said he spoke with the Consulate of Honduras in New Orleans, who identified the worker who had been using an alias in the United States.
Lee said the victim’s name is Reynaldo Eliberto Zavala Lozano, who was born on Jan. 6, 1987 in Honduras.
Lozano’s body has been released to his family for burial in Pascagoula.
Lee has preliminarily determined the death to be accidental consistent with a heat-related death. Lee said the official cause of death has not been determined by the medical examiner’s office. Lee said the official cause of death could take up to 12 months.
Lozano’s body was discovered more than 110 feet up on the bridge at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The Blast Tech Inc. construction worker was noticed missing when other members of his crew could not locate him when they stopped working for the day. Crews are working to repair worn-out sections of the bridge, which is closed to traffic.
Natchez police received the report at approximately 8 p.m. that Lozano was missing.
A joint task force between Natchez, McComb and Hattiesburg fire departments used a rope and pulley system to retrieve Lozano’s body from the top of the bridge.
Lozano’s body was safely lowered to the ground by 5 a.m. Thursday.
