Miss-Lou Youth Sports ready to begin fall season leagues

Miss-Lou Youth Sports will soon be in action for its football, cheerleading and fall soccer leagues.
Registration is currently open for all leagues at Hometown Sports. There will also be a main sign-up period from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the Vidalia Recreational Complex.
This year’s football league will have a one main difference than previous years.
Instead of having a division for players ages 5 to 8, the league will now cap the younger division at age 7 and split the 8 and 9 year olds into a separate division.
“It was too big of an age gap,” league director Mike Bowlin said. “The 5 year olds were getting left out. They are just too small, and the 8 year olds were dominating the league.”
Additionally, the league’s older division will now be offered for ages 10 to 12, instead of up to age 14.
“We were competing with middle schools too much (for participation),” Bowlin said. “We are trying to make it more competitive and more fun with what we have. It is a more of a kid friendly league.”
Cost for the football league is $80 and includes a game jersey, insurance and a trophy. It also covers rentals for a helmet and shoulder pads that must be returned at the end of the season.
Registration is open until Aug. 26 when tryouts will be held at the fields behind Vidalia Lower Elementary School.
The league’s jamboree is scheduled for Sept. 9.
The cheerleading league is open for ages 4 to 12 years and costs $70. Registration covers a uniform, pom-poms insurance and a player and team photo.
The soccer league is open to players ages 4 to 14. Registration is $70 and covers a jersey, insurance and a trophy.
Soccer league play will begin during the second week of September.
