NATCHEZ — Police arrested a Natchez woman Thursday for allegedly embezzling at least $10,000 worth of jewelry from Zales Jewelry Store in the Natchez Mall.
One of the store’s former employees, Jennifer Joanne Waller, 43, 15 South Circle, was charged with embezzlement and held on a $25,000 bond after police report Waller confessed to stealing jewelry.
Police were called to Zales on Aug. 3, where a loss prevention manager reported 120 pieces of jewelry with a combined value of more than $36,000 were missing. Police said the manager told them the jewelry went missing sometime between July 24, 2016 — the last time the store had taken inventory and cleared any shortages — and July 7, 2017.
Over the course of an investigation, police identified Waller as a suspect and subsequently arrested her after she reportedly confessed.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police report that more charges or arrests could be made.
