FERRIDAY — A gloomy evening could not dampen the sunshine for four Ferriday youth Sunday.
When The Dart landed on Fifth Street, Roosevelt Lewis, 13, Anthony Scandrick, 9, Calvin Washington, 8, and Semaj Bosley, 7, were outside enjoying as much of their summer as they could with the new school year looming.
The quartet described themselves as close friends with brothers Lewis and Washington living just a few houses down from brothers Scandrick and Bosley.
They said they like to enjoy many activities together, including dancing, playing football and swimming. However, their favorite interest is basketball.
“We always play basketball,” Lewis said. “All day, every day.”
Lewis said he was the best of the bunch, but the young Bosley was quick to disagree: “I’ll burn them,” he said.
Washington had a different take on who was top of the bunch.
“Me. I’m the best,” he said.
The children said they like to play a number of variations of basketball, including HORSE, 2-on-2 and a 3-point shooting contest.
“I can shoot from deep,” Lewis said.
The group said while they are not looking forward to summer ending, they are excited about what potentially lies ahead in school.
“I like math. I’m good at it,” Scandrick said.
Until then, you can find the quartet on the pavement playing their favorite sport.
“We’ll play until it gets dark,” Bosley said.
