When Graham Roberts was hired to be the new head football coach of Trinity Episcopal in April 2016, he always knew his role could expand into something more.
That time has come.
In addition to his head coaching duties, Roberts is set to take over as the school’s athletic director, Trinity announced Friday in a press release.
“We are more than pleased to appoint Graham to this position,” Trinity Head of School Christina Daugherty said in a statement. “He is a perfect fit based upon his love of sports and passion of working with kids while teaching them to excel in all aspects of life, including concentrating on their school work while improving their athletic skills.”
Roberts takes over for former boys basketball coach and interim athletic director Andy Blair. Blair is leaving the school to pursue a position as a church pastor in Florida, Roberts said.
“When they were interviewing me (last year), it was clear that there would be a path for this (the athletic director position),” Robert said. “Coach Blair did a good job of training me, and I appreciate everything he taught me.”
Roberts will assume the role of athletic director on Aug. 1.
“I’m elated, but I do realize there is going to be a lot of work that goes into this,” he said. “I’m going to try and put my vision on the athletic programs. I want to create an athletic department that complements our academics.”
Roberts said the school is still in search for a boys basketball coach, but hopes to have someone in place in the near future.
