NATCHEZ — Less than two hours after receiving word an escaped Madison Parish inmate was in the county at approximately 12:15 p.m. Monday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office had captured the escaped suspect accused of raping two men since being in jail.
Curtis O. Scott, 30, previously arrested by Ferriday police and sentenced in May, was captured at the Red Carpet Inn on D’Evereux Drive with a woman who was not charged, said Sheriff Travis Patten.
Patten said while Scott has been in jail, he has been accused of raping two other inmates. One rape Scott allegedly forced a man into the shower at knifepoint, Ferriday police report.
Scott and two other inmates reportedly escaped from the Madison Parish facility by climbing over the fence and going through some razor wire, Patten said.
The other two inmates were captured in or near Tensas Parish, Patten said, but Scott reportedly escaped by stealing a vehicle and making it to Adams County.
Patten said he did not have the names of the other two escaped inmates.
Patten said Scott also allegedly stole a cell phone, and the sheriff’s office task force was able to ping the cell phone to the location at the Red Carpet Inn. Patten said Scott was captured at approximately 1:45 p.m. without incident.
“This is a pretty bad guy with two pending rape charges while in prison,” Patten said. “When people like this are loose, I appreciate it when law enforcement gets the word out in a timely manner.
“He picked the wrong county to hide out in.”
Patten said he coordinated efforts with the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office drug task force, Ferriday Police Department and Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On May 10, Scott pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Scott, 108 Ralph Road No. 2, Vidalia, was sentenced to seven years in prison and was given credit for time served.
Patten said Scott would be transported back to Madison Parish.
