NATCHEZ — An Adams County woman has been arrested after allegedly shooting her boyfriend in the arm late Friday night after the victim reportedly punched her.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office investigator Maj. Jerry Brown said deputies responded to a disturbance on Grove Acres Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Brown said witnesses report the victim and Joyce Lovette Hargrave got into an argument, which led to the man, who has not been charged, allegedly punching Hargrave in the face with a closed fist.

Witnesses at that point pulled the victim out of the residence into the yard, Brown said,

Brown said Hargrave then reportedly retrieved a handgun and went out onto the porch and witnesses report she fired seven to nine times, only hitting the victim once on his right bicep. Some of the witnesses were in the yard with the victim but were not injured, Brown said.

The victim was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center. Brown said he did not know his condition.

Hargrave, 40, 35 Grove Acres Road, was charged with attempted murder.

Brown said Hargrave could potentially have the victim charged with simple assault (domestic violence) if she files charges for the alleged punch.

Hargrave was in jail Saturday with no bond set.
