Jeff Hancock’s wish to bring exposure to local athletes will have to wait at least a few more weeks.
McMurry University, where Hancock now serves as the offensive coordinator, canceled its three remaining football camps for the week Wednesday, including one scheduled at Vidalia High School for today.
The threat of heavy rainfall caused the cancellations, Hancock said.
“I was really disappointed,” he said. “I talked to a lot of people and they were really excited.”
Hancock said with busy schedules, McMurry will try to find a time in July when all coaches are available to return for the camps. Other cancellations included Monroe and Alexandria.
“It didn’t look like (the weather) was going to get any better,” Hancock said. “I didn’t want to tear up the fields and the grass, and I would hate to start and then have a lighting delay.”
Wet weather from Tropical Storm Cindy is expected in the area throughout the weekend.
