Woman dies after being hit by car Friday night

NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman died Friday after being struck by a car near Merit Health Natchez.
Natchez police spokesman Lt. Julius Steele said the 27-year-old pedestrian was hit by a Toyota Sequoia SUV at approximately 9:50 p.m. Thursday. The woman was crossing the road when in the southbound left lane near the median of Seargent S. Prentiss Drive, she was struck by a car causing life-threatening injuries, Steele said.
Steele said the woman was flown to a trauma center where she died Friday, though he did not know exactly what time. Steele said he did not know if the woman was flown to the trauma center in Alexandria or Jackson.
An investigation into the crash will be conducted by the state, Steele said.
Steele said the driver claimed to not see the victim.
Once the officer files the supplemental report, Steele said he would have more details such as what direction the victim was walking in and estimated speed of the SUV.
Steele said he would not release the victim’s name until the family had time to finalize details.
