Length of bridge closure seems excessive

It is not often I’m confused. However, the article in The Natchez Democrat regarding the work on the westbound bridge beginning in June confuses me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t there similar work done on the bridge not too long ago? I’ll admit the bridge isn’t as old as the Brooklyn Bridge which was declared open in 1883. Well, I thought that the recent work done had accomplished the necessary repairs.

Now, the two years it is expected to take to do the repairs and painting seem a little extensive. I expect there could be emergencies causing delays for police and ambulances to cross the eastbound bridge. Oh yes, what about closing both lanes for oversized loads? I hope you are following my train of reasoning over the extended repair time.

I certainly hope the construction company will apply themselves to work 24 hours a day in order to expedite the bridge completion. It would be conducive to paint the bridge at night when there is less traffic so vehicles won’t get overspray on them.

So, if I’m wrong  about my opinions, let me go in a corner and talk to the wall.

Thank you.
