NATCHEZ — Natchez Public Works crews closed two streets and rerouted Silver Street for two-way traffic Wednesday morning in response to flooding.
Public Works Superintendent Justin Dollar said Silver Street has been closed just past Magnolia Grill. The street has been rerouted into a two-lane road coming down from Broadway Street so Natchez Under-the-Hill businesses can remain open.
D.A. Biglane Street has been closed on the other side of the Rosalie Mansion parking lot.
Cooper Street, which is at the end of Learneds Mill Road, has also been closed.
Dollar said crews would get the streets back to normal as soon as the flooding subsides and workers can get in for cleanup.
As of early Wednesday evening, the river’s level was at 52.63 feet, which is almost 5 feet over flood stage on the Natchez river gauge. The projected crest is 54.5 feet on May 23. By June 2, the river is projected to be below flood stage, which is 48 feet.
In Adams County, Thornburg Lake Road at Anna’s Bottom and Carthage Point Road are closed.
