Cathedral tennis players move on to state tourney

Five Cathedral High School tennis players will continue their season next Wednesday at the MAIS Class AAA State Tournament in Vicksburg.
Natalie Fletcher and Grace Anne White dominated the competition in the semifinals and finals on their way to the No. 2 girls doubles championship at Tuesday’s Class AAA South State Tournament at the Jones County Junior College tennis courts.
Fletcher and White defeated Allie Morton and Shelly Morton of Central Private, 6-2, 6-0, in the semis and then beat Haley Carlisle and Claire Dougles of Laurel Christian School in the finals, 6-2, 6-0.
Emma Hogue and Marty Lewis defeated Morgan Kimble and Karly Pinion of Central Private, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 girls doubles semifinals before falling to Madison and MaKenzie Shows of Simpson Academy in the finals, 6-4, 6-4.
In No. 2 boys singles, Chase Brooks rallied to beat Lync Sharp of Bowling Green School in his semifinal match, 6-7, 7-6, 6-0. Brooks lost to Turner Hughes of host school Laurel Christian School in the finals, 6-2, 6-0.
Cathedral’s girls tennis team finished runner-up at South State. The Class AAA State Tournament will take place at Halls Ferry Tennis Center.
