Tourney to support area foundation

There are many ways to get involved in this year’s Joe Fortunato-Allen Brown Golf Classic hosted by the Miss-Lou chapter of the National Football Foundation, and spots are still available for players, sponsorships and volunteers.

The tournament is scheduled for a shotgun tee time at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at Duncan Park.

“We are really excited about this weekend,” NFF chapter president Joe Willis said. “It’s a great time.”

Willis said players and sponsors should get in contact with him before Thursday afternoon if interested in participating. He also said competitors should not be discouraged if they do not have a team for the event because individuals can be grouped the day of.

The annual event is the main fundraiser, Willis said, for the College Hall of Fame scholarship fund, which gives out more than $10,000 dollars each year to local scholar athletes.

“Every bit of the money we raise goes directly to the fund,” he said. “We are thankful and certainly could use all the help we can get.”

An assortment of door prizes will be offered through a raffle and there will also be a ball drop, as well as prizes for winning teams.

“It’s really about promoting the youth and their achievements,” Willis said. “This way we recognize the future leaders of our community, and this tournament is about continuing to support our cause.”
