Teen charged with attempted murder for Southmoor Drive shooting

NATCHEZ — A 17-year-old youth has been charged with attempted murder for reportedly shooting a Natchez man four times Monday night on Southmoor Drive.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Jerry Brown said Martez Rashard Brown, 17, 310-B Dumas Drive, was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday following the shooting, which occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m.
Maj. Brown said Martez Brown reportedly went to Southmoor to help a relative fight someone there. Five individuals reportedly went to Southmoor for the fight, Maj. Brown said.
While on the street, Maj. Brown said, the suspect exchanged words with the victim before allegedly shooting him four times, twice in the chest and once in each arm.
The victim’s family reported that the 32-year-old man was scheduled for surgery Tuesday morning, Maj. Brown said. As of Monday afternoon, Maj. Brown said he had not been updated on the victim’s condition.
Maj. Brown said he expects other arrests would be made in the case. Martez Brown is believed to be the only shooter, but other individuals are facing accessory charges, Maj. Brown said.
