Police respond to shots fired in area of Martin Luther King Jr. Street

NATCHEZ — Natchez police and Adams County sheriff’s deputies searched Tuesday night for clues after multiple shots were reportedly fired in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. and High streets.
Natchez Police Department Lt. Julius Steele said a sheriff’s deputy was traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Street and spotted two men verbally arguing shortly before 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Natchez Rural Health Clinic. Near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and B streets, the deputy heard shots fired and turned his vehicle around.
When he got back to the health clinic, the two men were gone and individuals were seen running down the street, Steele said.
Police officers and sheriff’s deputies combed nearby streets in search of suspects, but did not make any arrests related to the alleged shooting.
A man taken into custody during the search was arrested for unrelated warrants with the police and sheriff’s office.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Steele said Natchez Police had not received any reports of gunshot victims.
