FAYETTE — A Pascagoula man was reportedly killed Saturday in Jefferson County after a vehicle hit him while he was walking on Mississippi 553.
Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said in a statement troopers received the call at approximately 10:30 a.m. from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and found Johnny Lee Beverly, 25, of Pascagoula, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Fortenberry said Beverly had been struck by an unidentified vehicle that was traveling south on Mississippi 553. Beverly had been walking on the northbound side of 553, when the vehicle in question reportedly crossed over the center line to come into contact with Beverly.
Fortenberry said two witnesses claim they heard what sounded like an auto accident at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Fortenberry said when the witnesses went to check, they did not see anyone around.
Fortenberry said the highway patrol has reason to believe Beverly could have been struck by the vehicle at 1:30 a.m.
