VIDALIA — The Vidalia Police Department is warning residents of a possible scam attempting to defraud utilities customers.
Vidalia Police Capt. Frankie Carroll said a couple of businesses have reported receiving calls from someone posing as an Entergy representative saying their bill is overdue, and businesses must pay immediately via credit card.
Entergy does not service Vidalia, as the city operates its own utilities department.
The Town of Vidalia announced in a Facebook post that the utilities department does not request credit card information over the phone.
Carroll said police not received any reports of customers being scammed out of money, only reports of the suspicious calls.
Anyone with information about the possible scam should contact the police at 318-336-5254.
