NATCHEZ — An Adams County man pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with a 2015 shooting characterized as a drug-deal turned murder.
Darryl Keith Hurts Jr., 19, Country Club Drive, was initially charged with murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery. Although he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge his sentencing was delayed until a later date.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper said since the case is still pending for other defendants in connection with the 2015 shooting, he was prohibited from discussing the details of the plea.
A jury trial for the other defendants will be scheduled in August under Circuit Court Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson’s term, Harper said.
Chadrich Akeem Watson, Darnell D. Stevenson and Kelsey Michael Watson are each charged with murder, three counts attempted murder and armed robbery.
During the October 2015 incident one man, Clifford Barnes, died after being shot several times. He was found in his wrecked Toyota Camry in a ditch on Kings Circle.
A woman who was pregnant at the time of the incident was found alive in the vehicle. She had been shot in the back and was treated at a Jackson-area hospital.
The masked suspects allegedly tried to rob the victims prior to the shooting.
Hurts was released Monday on his previous bond of $90,000. Hurts bonded out after being indicted on March 27, 2015.
Stevenson was released this past week on a $75,000 bond.
Chadrich Watson and Kelsey Watson were both in jail Monday with no bonds set.
