NATCHEZ — A SUV crashed into the driver’s license office on U.S. 61 North Friday, injuring at least two people.
Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said the driver of a 2012 Dodge Journey was traveling northbound on U.S. 61 when the vehicle left the road approximately 300 yards away from the building, continued traveling and drove directly through the front of the building at the entrance.
The vehicle appeared to have crashed into the building near the front door and came to a stop completely inside the lobby.
Four people were inside the building, Fortenberry said, one of who was struck by the vehicle after it entered the building and suffered moderate injuries.
Mercedes Washington was inside the office when the vehicle crashed into the building.
“I’m still shaking,” she said shortly after the crash.
The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken from the scene by ambulance.
Fortenberry said the driver has a medical condition that may have caused the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
