NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are searching for a Brookhaven man who led police on a high-speed chase Wednesday night before abandoning his vehicle and eluding arrest.
Sheriff Travis Patten said Jawon Williams, 25, reportedly fled from deputies after Deputy Walter Mackel tried to pull Williams over on U.S. 61 North at the city limits for a seat belt violation.
Patten said Williams allegedly refused to pull over and led Mackel on a chase until Mackel “used good judgment” and called off the chase in the area of Walmart because of Williams’ high rate of speed.
Natchez Police Department officers then spotted Williams reportedly traveling approximately 70 miles an hour and chased him until he allegedly abandoned his vehicle in the Melrose-Montebello area and fled on foot.
Patten said Williams has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for armed robbery and controlled substance violations.
Williams is currently wanted in Brookhaven for a parole violation and is a suspect in two home invasions.
“These are the types of criminals we work to make sure they stay out of Adams County,” Patten said.
Williams is facing charges of felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement in a motor vehicle in Adams County.
Anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts should contact ACSO at 601-442-2752.
Williams’ last known address is 632 N. Sixth St. in Brookhaven.
