Marty Lewis scored 19 points and Elizabeth Smith poured in 14 for Cathedral, but it was not quite enough as the Lady Green Wave lost to the Bowling Green School Lady Buccaneers 47-44 Tuesday night in the first round of the MAIS Class AAA South State Tournament.

District 4 No. 4 seed Cathedral took a 25-20 lead into halftime, but District 5 champion Bowling Green outscored the Lady Green Wave 27-19 in the second half to escape with the win.

“We played really well. We hung in there,” head coach Peter Arnold said. “They got a lead on us in the fourth quarter. With 20 seconds left, they missed the front end of a 1-and-1. We had a shot to tie it with a corner 3, but it didn’t go in. I’m proud of them. We had a great season.”

The loss eliminates Cathedral from postseason play. The Lady Green Wave finished with an overall record of 23-8.
