ACCS soccer storms past Parkland, 6-1

For the past week, Adams County Christian School soccer coach Jim Bob Allgood has tinkered with several different lineups during team practices.

Perhaps the most notable of the changes was shifting Cristofer Thompson from his midfield post to a striker position, and it turned out to be a good call.

Thompson scored four goals and ACCS blasted its way past Parklane Academy 6-1 Monday.

“We’re tweaking a few things coming down the home stretch,” Allgood said. “My kids are understanding what we’re doing, and I’m very proud of them.”

Thompson also played a heavy role in the Rebels’ (15-1) other two scores.

Early in the first half, the junior forward sent a corner kick into the box that ricocheted off a Parklane defender and into the net, giving ACCS a 2-0 early lead.

Then late in the second half, Thompson blasted a shot that bounced off the Parklane goalkeeper’s hands, and Matt Westmoreland knocked the loose ball into the back of the net. The score put ACCS ahead 5-0.

Jacob McDaniel had four saves at goalkeeper for ACCS, including denying a penalty kick early in the first period to keep his squad ahead 2-0.

“I’m very proud of Jacob. I’m very proud of the whole bunch,” Allgood said. “I put some guys in some new spots that they’ve never played before, and they stepped up.”

ACCS will wrap-up its regular-season slate Wednesday on senior night against in-city rival Cathedral.

“It should make for a fantastic game,” Allgood said. “They’re tuned up right now, and so are we.”
