CHS soccer claims memorable win on senior night over Parklane

Cathedral High School soccer celebrated its senior night Friday, and it was a finale the nine outgoing Green Wave players won’t soon forget.
Cathedral scored six first half goals en route to rolling past Parklane Academy, 7-1.
“They really played relaxed,” Cathedral coach Dennis Hogue said. “Passes were spot on, chips, shots. They communicated so well and were unselfish.”
Hogue said the win was bittersweet. The Green Wave (9-10) will finish third in the district and miss the playoffs, but his team showed its full potential, Hogue said.
“If we would have done that all year, it would have been a whole different ball of wax,” he said. “Maybe on the coaching end that’s what we have to work on, trying to help them handle the pressure, because tonight they were so crisp.”
Frederick Sanguinetti and Matt McKinney each poured in two scores, while Edson Martinez, Rudy Nugent and John Ashton Hicks chipped in with goals of their own in the scoring barrage. A number of goals came of the highlight variety, headlined by Martinez’s blast from the top of the box and McKinney’s second score on a blast from approximately 25 yards away.
“Everyone on the field was working as one,” Hogue said. “The kids were telling me at halftime to make some adjustments to get some kids up top that usually don’t have (scoring) chances, and that’s pretty cool. They were pulling for their teammates and being unselfish.”
However, Cathedral’s season is not over as it has one more game remaining against city rival Adams County Christian School. Hogue said a definitive date for the game has not been set, but he is working in conjunction with ACCS coach Jim Bob Allgood and expects the game to be played sometime next week.
