NATCHEZ — An Adams County teen was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to manslaughter after a 2015 game of Russian roulette ended in the death of another teen.
Sixth Judicial District Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders sentenced Jeffery Lindell Blanton, 18, 708 Morgan Ave., to serve five years in state prison.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper said Blanton previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of 17-year-old Justin Williams Jr. in December 2015.
Blanton was indicted last year on a charge of second-degree murder for Williams’ death that resulted from what officials characterized as a gun game.
On the night of the killing, a group of juveniles was playing dominoes in the Mount Carmel Drive area of Morgantown, police said at the time.
Blanton started playing with a revolver, placing a single bullet in the cylinder and spinning it to play a game of Russian roulette.
After aiming the gun at the ground, Blanton allegedly pointed it at Justin Williams Jr., 17, before pulling the trigger.
When the gun went off, the bullet passed through Williams’ hand and hit him in the chest.
Williams was later pronounced dead at Merit Health Natchez.
