JONESVILLE — A Jonesville man was arrested Thursday charged with committing a rape 14 years ago. The arrest occurred after the suspect’s DNA was recently matched to evidence from the 2002 rape.
Rusty Fitt, 39, 1716 Boggy Bayou Road, Jonesville, was charged with forcible rape.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Vernon Stevens said a DNA sample from the victim was entered into a federal DNA database in 2002, but no match was found at the time.
In October 2016, Fitt was arrested on a probation hold. Stevens said during the 2016 probation process, Fitt’s DNA was entered into the DNA database and a report came back recently showing he could be a suspect in the 2002 rape of a female.
Stevens said the investigator obtained a warrant to get a DNA sample of Fitt. Based on the sample reportedly matching the 2002 sample, Fitt was arrested, Stevens said.
Stevens said he did not know where in the parish the alleged rape took place.
Fitt was being held in the Concordia Parish jail with no bond set Thursday.
