Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Jimmy “JJ” Pruitt, 53, and Stephen White, 49, went searching for 13 missing cows at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Tate Road.

A relative reported the men missing Thursday, saying it was unlike them to not return home, especially since their wallets and other valuables were left at home.

Patten said the men took four-wheelers to look for the cows, and the four-wheelers were washed away in a creek after heavy rainfall and storms in the area. Patten said the men were trapped by the rushing creek water off Moss Grove Road and could not make their way back home.

The men were checked out by medical staff, but did not appear to be injured, Patten said.

“It’s just been two long and cold nights for them,” he said.
