Natchez man gets 19-year sentence after pleading guilty to shooting woman in 2016

NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was sentenced to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to shooting a woman near Club 601 in July 2016.

Sixth District Circuit Court Judge Lillie Black sentenced Armond Terrell Shannon, 47, after he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for shooting a woman with whom he was reportedly previously in a relationship near the Martin Luther King Jr. Street nightclub.

The victim was shot once and treated at a local hospital. Her injuries were not life threatening.

Shannon is a habitual offender with three prior convictions in Adams County.

In May 1994, he was convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to serve seven years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

In June 2002, Shannon was convicted for possession of cocaine and sale of cocaine. He was sentenced to serve 10 years for the possession charge and 16 years for the sale charge.

Shannon is to immediately begin serving the 19-year sentence for the assault charge.
