NATCHEZ — Natchez police have arrested two people in the past week for burglarizing vehicles prompting police to remind drivers to lock the doors of their vehicles.
Natchez Police Department Lt. Kenneth Stampley said Corey S. Latham, 24, 256-A Quitman Road, was arrested for burglary Thursday, and Ellis R. White, 53, no address provided, arrested for burglary Wednesday in connection with two separate incidents.
Latham reportedly stole a $1,000 piece of equipment from a truck Thursday at the Excellence Inn on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive.
Latham allegedly tried to sell the equipment, which Stampley said is used to locate underground gas lines, at a local pawn shop.
Once the owner of the equipment discovered it stolen, he went to pawn shops asking if someone had tried to sell it, and police were reportedly later able to identify Latham, Stampley said.
Police apprehended Latham at his residence as he was attempting to flee and reportedly found the stolen equipment in his vehicle.
White reportedly stole tools from a vehicle parked at Zipy gas station on Old Washington Road while the vehicle owner was working inside the building.
Police were reportedly able to identify White from security footage and arrested him.
Stampley said drivers should always lock their car doors to deter burglars.
