NATCHEZ — Within hours of being released from jail, a Natchez man reportedly shot another man Wednesday night on Williams Street.
Natchez Police Chief Daniel White said Cody J. Carradine, 25, 211 Old Washington Road, allegedly shot an acquaintance near the corner of Williams and Minor streets.
White said the victim reported Carradine and two other men walked past him in the street, and then Carradine came back, made a comment and then started firing a gun.
The victim reportedly hid under a vehicle, but was shot in his lower right leg, White said.
He was treated at Merit Health Natchez and later released.
Officers searched for Carradine Wednesday night and Thursday during the day, apprehending him at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, White said.
Carradine was arrested Tuesday and released Wednesday on a charge of failure to comply.
White said police have not determined the exact motive for the shooting, only that the men have a history of conflict.
The victim told police Carradine has shot him once before, but the victim did not press charges, White said.
“I don’t know what’s going on with them, other than that they apparently do not like each other,” White said.
Wednesday night’s shooting marks the fourth shooting reported in Natchez and Adams County since Dec. 30. Three people have been killed.
