NATCHEZ — This weekend’s Icons of Statehood event commemorating Mississippi’s Bicentennial at Historic Jefferson College has been canceled because of inclement weather.
Mississippi Department of Archives and History Sites Administrator Clay Williams said organizers hope to reschedule the event, which was to exhibit the state’s first constitution and a rare 20-star flag.
“We simply had to cancel for safety of not only people who might travel to see these previous pieces of our past, but we also did not want to risk these artifacts themselves traveling from Jackson on poor road conditions,” Williams said. “We hope to reschedule for another weekend.”
