NATCHEZ — The Miss-Lou received a light dusting of freezing rain Friday afternoon, causing a couple of traffic accidents on slick roadways, but no major incidents by Friday night.
Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford said a couple of wrecks caused by vehicles sliding off icy roads were reported Friday.
County and Mississippi Department of Transportation road crews were out Friday putting salt and sand on roads, particularly bridges, Bradford said.
No bridges or roads were closed as of Friday evening, but Bradford warned drivers that bridges could still freeze today.
Concordia Parish Homeland Security Director Payne Scott said no major problems were reported in Concordia Parish, except for ice on the Jonesville bridge.
Crews were routinely salting the bridge, but were still having difficulty controlling the ice, Scott said.
Scott and Bradford warned drivers to exercise caution when driving and avoid traveling, if possible.
Meteorologist Anna Wolverton with the National Weather Service in Jackson said Friday evening most of the freezing rain had moved out of Natchez.
The light accumulation the area saw Friday could, however, stick around today, with the high projected to only reach 33 degrees, Wolverton said.
“It’s supposed to be sunny, so the sun might help warm up the roadways,” she said.
Low temperatures tonight are expected to be in the teens, but will warm up to 42 degrees Sunday, Wolverton said.
