NATCHEZ — A woman was apparently shot Friday night near the Wilson Road Dollar General.
Natchez Police Lt. Kenneth Stampley said investigators have not determined the exact location where the shooting occurred. The victim’s mother drove her to the Dollar General looking for help, Stampley said.
Police reported the victim was shot once in the chest. She was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for treatment, Stampley said late Friday.
Stampley said he would not release the victim’s name.
Investigators did not have any suspects identified late Friday, but Stampley said the department is still interviewing witnesses, including the mother.
Before she was transported for medical treatment, the victim was seen lying face up next to a car, which looked to have been backing out of a parking space. Officers were on scene performing CPR on the victim until Metro Ambulance service arrived at 8:31 p.m.
Metro operations manager Jim Graves said the company was dispatched by 911 at 8:25 and arrived at 8:31.
Workers at the Dollar General said they did not see anything. The workers, who declined to give their names, said they heard two shots.
One employee said a nurse was in the store at the time of the shooting and assisted the victim before officers arrived.
Stampley asked anyone with information on this incident to call Natchez Police at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
