NATCHEZ — A week after receiving a Louis Vuitton purse as a Christmas gift, a Vidalia woman had the handbag stolen Thursday evening when she was walking to dinner in downtown Natchez.
Natchez Police Lt. Kenneth Stampley said sometime between 7 and 8 p.m., as the woman and her daughter were working on getting the victim’s grandchild out of a booster seat, a man and a woman approached.
Stampley said the man grabbed the purse from the woman. Stampley said the man dragged the grandmother — still attached to the purse — a short way down the street, where she fell and bruised her arms and knee before the thief gained complete control of the handbag and ran.
The woman ran away when the man did, Stampley said.
Stampley said the victim was not seriously hurt.
Stampley said he did not know how much money was in the bag. The victim’s daughter said approximately $10 was in the bag, along with all of her mother’s credit cards and identification.
Stampley said NPD does not have a suspect, but they are reviewing video footage from a business near where the incident occurred on Jefferson Street.
Stampley asked anyone with information on this incident to call Natchez Police at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
