FERRIDAY — One suspended and three former Ferriday Police Department employees addressed the Ferriday Board of Aldermen Tuesday during executive session.

Chief Arthur Lewis, former patrol captain John Hawkins, a former dispatcher and a former officer all met with the board in an executive session for personnel reasons. The four were telling their side of the story from a Friday, Dec. 2 incident in which Lewis was suspended and the other three terminated.

Ferriday Board Attorney Myisha Davis said the board of aldermen gave their recommendations on the individuals involved to the mayor.

Davis said a letter would be sent out to each person either reinstating the individual or upholding Mayor Sherrie Jacobs’ decision.

Davis said ultimately the mayor would make the decision to reinstate or to uphold the termination.

Jacobs announced on Dec. 7 Lewis had been placed on administrative leave for an unspecified period of time. During the same announcement she mentioned, “Other officers exhibiting unacceptable actions were dealt with accordingly.”

Since that time, Jacobs said Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office senior deputy John Cowan would lead the department during the short term, helping the department with “administrative issues.”

Cowan was not present at the meeting.

Following adjournment, Jacobs declined to comment.

Lewis declined to comment, but said he would tell his side of the story once the matter is resolved.

Hawkins declined to comment.
