NATCHEZ — Natchez police are warning residents to be aware of people knocking on doors in an attempt to con residents out of money.
Natchez Police Department Sgt. Jerry Ford said police have received seven reports of a woman who knocked on doors of Pecanwood Drive residences and convinced at least six residents to give her cash.
Ford said the woman, who was dressed in scrubs, reportedly told the residents she was a caretaker for a neighbor’s mother and needed help.
Police have not identified the woman, Ford said.
Ford cautions residents to be wary of people who might knock on doors asking for money, especially around the holidays.
“They need to make sure this person or charity is credible, especially with people knocking on doors this time of year.”
Anyone with information about the incidents should contact Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
Calls are anonymous.
