WOODVILLE — A 29-year-old Woodville woman reportedly confessed to strangling to death a 71-year-old woman in the victim’s Woodville house Monday night.
Doris Smith Boyd, 329 D St., reportedly confessed to strangling Isabelle Robinson at Robinson’s house at 786 Gaylord St.
Woodville Police Chief Jessie E. Stewart said Boyd reportedly knocked on the retired teacher’s door and asked to use the phone. When Robinson told Boyd she did not have a phone, Boyd reportedly forced her way into the house, a scuffle ensued, and Boyd allegedly strangled Robinson to death.
WPD charged Boyd with murder and burglary.
WPD was dispatched to the house at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Evidence at the scene indicated Robinson’s death was a homicide, Stewart said.
Stewart then contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi Crime Lab for assistance in the investigation.
Through further investigation, Stewart said, police identified Boyd as a suspect.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team assisted in the location of Boyd, Stewart said. The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
Stewart said Boyd confessed to committing the murder to Stewart and an MBI investigator shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday. Boyd reportedly told police she went to Robinson’s house with the intention to rob her.
Boyd was being held Tuesday night in the Woodville Municipal Jail on a $550,000 bond.
Stewart extended appreciation to Sheriff Travis Patten, ACSO’s SRT unit and other agencies for providing assistance during the investigation.
