NATCHEZ — Area residents in search of a new job have an opportunity this week to meet with dozens of employers all in one place.
Alcorn State University, Natchez Inc., WIN Job Center, Concordia Economic Development and Louisiana Works are hosting a regional job fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Natchez Mall.
ASU Special Assistant to the President of Community and Economic Development Ruth Nichols said approximately 35 area employers will be represented at the regional job fair, including Delta Energy, Corrections Corporation of America, French America Line, which owns the Louisiane riverboat, health care providers and others.
Jobs available include full-time positions as well as employers seeking seasonal employees for the holidays.
Hundreds of area residents attended a job fair for the hospitality industry in May. Nichols said she hopes for similar turnout at the regional job fair.
“We’ve had so many companies responding positively,” she said. “I think we’re going to have tables all up and down the mall (for employers).”
Nichols said organizers will be stressing to applicants at the job fair the importance of taking the WorkKeys assessment, which offers certifications for applicants to provide to employers based on their performance on the assessment. Copiah-Lincoln Community College will have a table set up at the job fair with more information about WorkKeys.
Nichols said applicants should be prepared and dressed as if they are going to a job interview and anticipate filling out applications and being asked for resumes.
“Some of these jobs are the better jobs in our community,” Nichols said. “It is a really good opportunity for our whole region.”
