Autumn is here and it’s a great time to be outside.
One of the many exciting things New Covenant Presbyterian Church is hosting this season is a Jambalaya Cook-off fundraiser and concert on Saturday. We are raising money for various church improvements needed on our campus located at 130 Homochitto St. including a new permanent sign out front, gutters on the administrative building used for church and community groups, picnic tables for a park area in the back lot of the church, and a new intercom system so nursery volunteers can listen to the morning worship service. Although this is a fundraiser for our church, it is also a time for community fellowship and fun.
Are you a master chef well-versed in Cajun cuisine? You can show off your skills and earn bragging rights by entering our Jambalaya cook-off competition for only a $25 entry fee. To enter, simply write your check to New Covenant Presbyterian and provide 2 crockpots worth of jambalaya that you will bring to the event. No cooking on-site necessary! If eating is more your style, $10 gets you in the gates for all-you-can-eat jambalaya. Children 12 and under get in free. There will be fun for all ages: face painting by Sue Burkhalter, a space jump from GJ’s rental, live music by Taylor Spring, and carnival kids’ games hosted by Copiah -Lincon Community College students. There will also be a bake sale and cake walk, so don’t forget to bring your sweet tooth. After the cook-off winner is crowned, Burnley Cook will be featured in one of his famous concerts to follow at 1:15 p.m. in the sanctuary.
This event is for anyone and everyone in our community. We’d love for you to stay and enjoy the day with us, but if you are unable, still stop on by and grab a to-go plate of homemade jambalaya for $10. There will also be a People’s Choice Award for best jambalaya revealed right before the concert.
